Hanoi's Blues

In a suburban rural expanse, detached from an ancient and revered capital, lies an expansive stretch of vibrant green. While this single contractual aspect stands as a hallmark, the riverside's natural forest sets itself apart amidst the tapestry of Ha Noi city.

The spark behind this endeavor.

Choosing this location for my final project wasn't initially my intention. It was only when I set foot on the grass here that I became utterly convinced. The scenery flowed, birdsong harmonized, and leaves rustled in the gentle breeze, creating a beautiful symphony. And in that fleeting moment, a melody, quite jazzy, danced into my mind. It was the most enchanting tune I'd ever encountered.

In the end, I christened this land "Blues".

Reed-red river, lush-green forests, blush-pink fields, yet a land so blue

Blue, often considered one of the three primary pigment colors in painting, carries diverse meanings in the eyes of artists. It's associated with harmony, boundless expanse, and imagination, yet it can also evoke the deepest melancholy.

Interestingly, "blues" also refers to a "troubled note" in music, a crucial element in compositions. This site bears resemblances to the facets of "blues": a dreamlike realm, a poetic forest, but also a mournful riverside terrain. This juxtaposition could be a message to visitors: life in Hanoi echoes the emotional range of jazz harmonies. And so, the "blues," a notable vista, akin to a wild yet indispensable note in a blues song, remains enshrined here.

The essence of this project is encapsulated by two pivotal themes: FLOOD and PEOPLE.

"Flood" signifies a transformation of the Red River's portrayal. For a considerable stretch, floods have cast a significant impact on the livelihoods of local inhabitants, marked by relentless surges from the Red River. The challenge lies in devising ways to render these floods benign to their agricultural pursuits, thus enhancing the quality of life for residents and sustaining the intrigue of tourists who wander through this area.

Conversely, "people" emphasizes the infusion of individuals from Hanoi city into the myriad quintessential rural activities.

This location is separated from The Old City through a dyke route, but still, it entirely identifies a typical culture of residential rural riverside. Thus, the arrow of this aspect is to connect the inner city residents with suburbs, but to help them deeply understand each other’s cultures.
